Omega Seamaster: ever more comfortable with the deep

Produced since 1948, the Seamaster is the oldest collection still being marketed by Omega. Thanks to its rubber gasket, an innovation in the post-war years, the Omega Seamaster proves its name is not usurped by breaking a depth record (62.5 meters) in 1955 through Gordon McLean. After an expedition to the North Pole, the Seamaster was again noticed in 1957 when the watchmaker released the Professional version. This one is differentiated by its stainless steel case; its crown at 3 o'clock; its waterproofness still improved. In 1970, a new collection belonging to the Seamaster range managed to operate at depths of up to 1,370 meters (through a laboratory experiment), before breaking new depth records during the following decades. To read other time zones or time events, Omega Seamasters are often equipped with a bidirectional rotating bezel. The very high-end, high-performance models, including the Ploprof, have a helium valve (a decompression system that allows helium to escape), a self-locking screw-down crown for improved water-resistance, and a transparent caseback to view the mechanism. With all these models, the Seamaster offers a wide choice of materials (steel, gold, fabric, etc.), case sizes (from 28 to 49.2 mm), features and styles. Ideal for both men and women to find their dream dive watch.

One Seamaster, many variations

The success, the Omega Seamaster also owes it to all its declinations. This is particularly true of the Omega Seamaster 300, a watch launched in 1957 for professional divers. Water-resistant to 300 meters and recognizable by its black dial, it has remained a benchmark in aquatic watches. The Aqua Terra, Bullhead (both water resistant to 150 meters) and Railmaster (water resistant to 60 meters) collections have a more sporty-chic feel that is perfect for everyday wear. For a sporty and professional diving watch, one should rather go for the Seamaster Diver (water resistant to 300 meters) or the Seamaster Planet Ocean (water resistant to 600 meters). Deep-sea enthusiasts can also succumb to the most resistant dive watch in Omega's history: the Ploprof, waterproof to a depth of 1,200 meters.

A technical and high-performance collection

To be able to reach record depths (up to 1,200 meters for the Ploprof models), the Seamaster diving watches are highly technical. Beyond its record-breaking performance at depth, the Seamaster has become a legend thanks to its many prestigious owners: it has adorned the wrists of Jacques-Yves Cousteau, Joe Biden, Prince William and above all has given rhythm to the James Bond saga.
