The Aquatimer, the first dive watch from the House of IWC

In 1967, the famous manufacture IWC launched the Aquatimer watch, its first diving model. If the reference is initially aimed at professionals, it will quickly seduce all scuba diving enthusiasts thanks to its exceptional performance. The Aquatimer watch is powered by a self-winding mechanical movement that is water-resistant to 200 meters. It also features a particularly innovative double crown: the first crown is dedicated to the movement of the mechanism, while the second, with a rotating bezel, allows the calculation of immersion times. This mechanism, designed by IWC and named SafeDive, prevents the calculation of the immersion time from being involuntarily extended by the diver. The bezel of the Aquatimer watch is also one of the most iconic in the collection in terms of aesthetics: unlike other iconic dive watches that feature a fluted bezel, this model has a rotating bezel with large recesses.

Aquatimer collection: a variation of successful models

Today, the Aquatimer watch is offered with a titanium, steel, gold or bronze case with a diameter of 42 mm (standard version) or 44 mm (since 2008). While the first reference in 1967 was water resistant to 200 meters, subsequent models were soon water resistant to 300 meters. Today, the Aquatimer 2000 series can even dive to a depth of 2000 meters. Due to the success of the model, IWC has completed its collection with several variants and complications. The Aquatimer watch is now available as a chronograph or equipped with a depth gauge (Deep Three model) and offers different models of colored dials.
