A branded strap for a branded watch
The
watch straps participate fully in the identity of the brand, so much so that the major watchmaking houses create exclusive bracelets. And especially non-interchangeable! A Jaeger-Lecoultre bracelet cannot be mounted on a Chopard watch, nor a Breitling bracelet on a Breguet watch. It would be a very bad effect. And we're not even talking about watches where the case and bracelet are one and the same, like the Rado Ceramica or the Rolex King Midas.
When the old strap has lived, or if it is damaged, that it must in any case be changed, there is however the solution of the
adaptable watch strap, which as its name suggests will be able to associate with a watch of a specific brand.
This solution is not, of course, suitable for everyone, as the strap is an
integral part of the watch. Many will prefer to turn to a branded strap, even more so if it is unique. It's true that an Omega Speedmaster Moonwatch deprived of its
Velcro® strap adorned with the logo of NASA, the U.S. space agency, wouldn't really be the same...
Leather or fabric, exclusive bracelets signed by the big houses
This in no way prevents the same brand Omega to offer its customers to redesign their watch and let their imagination run wild: "You might be able to discover a watch with a style as unique as you." The company's "watch bands" catalog is particularly extensive. Its
NATO bracelets, for example, come in a multitude of colors and patterns.
Similarly, a
leather strap can adopt a different shade, be microperforated or not, etc. The fact remains that an Omega bracelet will feature unique quality finishes, not to mention the exceptional material used by the brand, in this case alligator leather.
The
branded bracelets have an existence of their own and are the object of all the attention from the great watchmaking houses. Jaeger-LeCoultre, another example, has thus renewed its partnership with the Argentine house Casa Fagliano - which handcrafts two-material polo boots - to create a new canvas and calf leather strap exclusively for Reverso watches.
The example of Rolex metal bracelets
The branded bracelet still makes sense in the case of
steel bracelets. In this regard, Rolex's expertise does indeed extend to the bracelet, well beyond the engraved crown logo. The world's undisputed leader in luxury watches creates bracelets with cleverly designed ergonomics, combining comfort, reliability and elegance: "the design, development, production and rigorous testing to which the bracelets are subjected involve the use of the most advanced technologies, as well as excellent craftsmanship and know-how," the brand writes.
Just as there is the legendary
Oyster case, there is an Oyster bracelet, with a strong identity, characterized by its three flat links. The metal bracelet imagined as early as the 1930s has evolved, of course, including the integration of Oysterflex, a super-elastic metal blade - and a Rolex innovation.
Oystersteel steel, meanwhile, equips the brand's dive watches, characterized by its high resistance to corrosion, while the bracelet features a
patented Rolex Glidelock clasp.
"Bracelets and clasps fully participate in the unique pleasure of wearing a Rolex watch. The Swiss brand is far from alone in this philosophy!
