Baume et Mercier watches: ancestral know-how and watchmaking precision

The history of Baume & Mercier began in 1830 when Louis Victor and Pierre-Joseph-Célestin Baume opened a watchmaking counter in the Swiss Jura. From the beginning, the motto of the two brothers was clear: "accept only perfection and manufacture only watches of the highest quality". Thanks to its rigor, the company quickly became successful. Its timepieces, renowned for their reliability and technological innovations, seduced lovers of fine watchmaking, especially the chronograph and grand complication models. The Baume brothers' company, aware of the potential of its production, wanted to conquer international markets. It began to establish a branch in London, then in several strongholds in Great Britain. In 1951, the company changed its name to "Baume Brothers". Baume Brothers was a resounding success. It won a dozen prizes and gold medals at several international exhibitions, confirming the expertise and quality of its watches. In 1892, it even broke a chronometry record with a pocket chronometer watch equipped with a one-minute tourbillon movement and a "Détente" escapement. This record remained unbroken for ten years.

Luxury watches combining creativity, precision and aesthetics

The Baume Brothers company would experience a decisive turning point in its history in 1918. William Baume, the head of the House, joined forces with Paul Mercier to found the watchmaking company Baume & Mercier in Geneva. Inspired by the "Roaring Twenties" following the First World War, the Swiss brand created superb wristwatches. It was a carefree time and the new Baume & Mercier company wanted to offer references that were both in tune with the times and faithful to the great watchmaking tradition. The company understood the importance of women's emancipation and oriented a large part of its production towards the female public. The success is still there in several countries of the world. In 1919, the brand had the privilege of receiving the "Poinçon de Genève", the world's highest watchmaking distinction. After the Second World War, Baume & Mercier concentrated its production on classic men's watches, sports chronographs, and women's jewelry watches, while maintaining a certain penchant for the avant-garde and the striking artistic styles of its time. In the 1940s, the company launched a model that would quickly become iconic: the Marquise watch for women. The Swiss company was one of the first watchmakers to introduce modern and creative women's watches that were not simply replicas of men's models. The following years were also marked by the creation of classic round watches playing with the codes of modernity and tradition.

Timeless watches but still in the air of time

The ability to draw on major contemporary developments while preserving a classic and timeless touch becomes the hallmark of the House of Baume & Mercier. This alliance brings infinite pleasure to lovers of fine watchmaking who are looking for novelties capable of being part of the noblest watchmaking heritage. In 1971, the brand entered the electronic era with the Tronosonic model, the first tuning fork watch, while two years later it launched one of the world's first steel sports watches, the Riviera. The creations followed one after the other and became, for the most part, essential references in the luxury watchmaking sector: Galaxie, Mimosa, Stardust, Riviera, Linea watches... In 1988, Baume et Mercier joined the Vendôme group, which later became Richemont, and launched several successful models. The brand, which celebrated its 185th anniversary in 2015, also regularly revisits its emblematic references. Today, it offers 5 collections of refined, elegant and contemporary watches: - Baume et Mercier Hampton - Baume et Mercier Capeland - Baume et Mercier Classima - Baume et Mercier Linea - Baume & Mercier Promesse
