Pretty Woman, necklace of love and passion
A mythical film embodied by a cult jewel: Pretty Woman has never left the imagination of the
creators of the House of Fred. So much so that thirty years after the film's release, the jeweler's deputy artistic director and granddaughter of the founder, Valerie Samuel, has just reissued the choker necklace and its heart-shaped cut rubies, which lit up Julia Roberts' dazzling smile on screen.
While Fred Samuel has always been a jeweler known and appreciated by movie stars, especially for his creative daring, love of color and stonework, the story linking the House to the
film Pretty Woman is quite special. In 1990, the film's production team pushed open the door of Fred's Beverly Hills boutique. Its expectation, a set for the lead actress.
Julia Roberts and Richard Gere inspired Fred, who imagined the now-famous
choker necklace set with diamonds and rubies, with the success we know, both on screen and in town. Since then," says Valérie Samuel, "the Pretty Woman collection has remained within the House a symbol of love reinterpreted over the years. As for the necklace, it is indeed one of the iconic pieces of the Place Vendôme jeweler, declined in many versions.
Necklaces representing the iconic collections
It is not the only one, as
the history of the House is written around
imbolic collections. One naturally thinks of the
Force 10 bracelet, born in 1966, whose white, pink or yellow gold shackle today comes to adorn necklaces and pendants, for her and for him, paved or not with diamonds.
The
Baie des Anges necklaces and sautoirs, for their part, recall that Fred Samuel was a pioneer in introducing cultured pearls to Parisian jewelry, and did so as early as the 1930s. A delicate gold thread here enhances the beauty of these pearls with their subtle hues of pink and white.
It is another of Fred Samuel's passions, the one nurtured since his childhood in Argentina for colored stones, that animates the Sugar Loaf necklaces and
sautoirs, characterized by their interchangeable cabochons, of rose quartz, chalcedony, mother-of-pearl, lapis lazuli, topaz and many more.
Boldness, the breadcrumb trail of the House of Fred
To each woman, to each personality, her
Fred necklace. The Chance Infinie motif is certainly one of the best illustrations of this, but also one of the latest collections. The lemniscate, the flat curve in the shape of an 8 that symbolizes infinity, is declined in the form of necklaces, pendants and sautoirs, where gold is adorned with diamonds, rubies or turquoise lacquer, another expertise of the Parisian House.
In this vast palette of jewelry pieces, one thing has remained constant for the past 85 years: Fred has always known how to amaze and delight, surprise and innovate. The heirs of the founder of the Parisian House have always followed in his footsteps, making Fred one of the most daring jewelers in the Place Vendôme. And it is certainly not the very surprising
Stone Calibre necklace that will contradict this statement: with this 750/1000th gold and diamond pendant, Fred offers you nothing less than to measure the size of the diamonds yourself, from 0.01 to 0.25 carats.
