Bracelets, Hermes chic on the wrist
In 1927, when its watchmaking history had already been written for a decade, the House of Hermès embarked on a new activity, and created its first piece of jewelry: it was a bracelet. Like a tradition, the
emblemished jewelry and jewelery lines are first worn on the wrist, before being declined into rings, necklaces or brooches.
Witness the famous
Dog Collar bracelet, also launched in the late 1920s and still a bestseller for Hermès a century later. At the time, it was necessary to dare to imagine a bracelet with a strip of leather adorned with studs with domed facets and a metal ring!
Yet, the undoubtedly glamorous style of this
Dog Collar bracelet has seduced, then crossed the ages. Today, it comes in finer
jewelry lines, in white or pink gold 750/1000, set with diamonds. It also inspires Hermès jewelry accessories, including a stunning series of colorful aluminum cuffs.
The Dog Collar is far from the only
iconic model of the House to have been reinvented by successive designers. The
Anchor Chain line, for example, born from a sketch of a boat mooring chain in 1938, has inspired variations such as the
Anchor H Bracelets and Punk Anchor Chain. The stick ring is still available in a gold and diamond series nicely (and appropriately) named Finesse, when Farandole takes on the links.
Bracelets that span the ages
The
Hermès bracelets embody many of the skills of the House's artisans. That of the goldsmiths and jewelers of course, but also those of the leatherworkers or master enamellers. Thin and plain, or thick and printed, the line of
enamel jewelry thus represents this know-how combined with sublime elegance, in a dazzling dance of colors.
As for the goldsmith's work, it is highlighted in
exceptional pieces such as the Calèche bracelet, with its decorations of stables of yesteryear and authentic equestrian ornaments, once reserved for parties and receptions.
In its bracelets, Hermès also has fun mixing styles and eras to make
timeless adornments. Thus the bracelet in lizard Niloticus smoothed adorned with the Kelly clasp born in the 30s, the Jumbo bracelet and its leather cord with the eponymous clasp, its "brother", the Glénan bracelet, which uses the ring and its stick...
In fact, with Hermès, what could appear as a simple cord becomes a chic piece of jewelry, for women but also for men with regard to lines like Glénan, Skipper or certain
leather bracelets.
Between the Jewelry and Jewelry Accessories activities, bracelets form, what's more, the most complete jewelry category of the House, with hundreds of models.
