Omega Speedmaster
The Omega Speedmaster, a heavy-duty timepiece
The Omega Speedmaster is undoubtedly one of the world’s best-known watches.
The story began in the 1960s when NASA was looking for a chronograph wristwatch that could withstand the extreme conditions of space travel (vibrations, accelerations, pressure, temperature swings, humidity and more).
The Speedmaster watch, first produced in 1957, was chosen by NASA in 1965 and renamed the Speedmaster Professional the following year.
Worn by astronaut Neil Armstrong during the lunar mission on 21 July 1969, the model has since been spun off into a number of variations, including the first Speedmaster Automatic in 1971, the Day-Date in 1993 and the Broad Arrow in 2001.
Nonetheless, the watch has always maintained its distinctive style, featuring a black dial with three indicators, tachymeter scale on the bezel and perfectly legible luminescent hands.
