Corum's extravagant watchmaking: The legendary Golden Bridge collection

If there is one Swiss luxury watch brand that offers watches with absolutely nothing conventional about them, it is Corum. The brand claims loud and clear that: Since 1955, Corum has considered creativity and daring as its core values"". It is certainly true that as far back as 1958, the Chinese Hat watch must have come as a surprise with its extended bezel in the shape of a wicker hat as commonly worn by the Chinese. Corum's extraordinary designs caused just as much of a stir in the 1960s and 1970s, including ""Romvlvs"" with its numerals engraved onto the bezel, ""Feather"" with its real bird feathers under the dial glass, and the ""Coin Watch"" with its ultra-flat movement embedded in a 20-dollar coin... The concept of the Coin Watch was then repeated in the Heritage collection. Then, in 1980, the Swiss House of La Chaux-de-Fonds created one of those iconic watches that define not just their era, but also the future. The Golden Bridge was a world first, with its ingenious hand-engraved ""baguette"" movement and linear gears enclosed in a transparent case. The work of watchmaker Vincent Calabrese, this calibre is truly revolutionary thanks in part to its exceptional precision. The Golden Bridge is such a legendary watch that Corum has reimagined the timepiece several times, with Avant-Garde, Golden Bridge Classic and Golden Bridge Miss paved with diamonds among other versions. The baguette movement has even been housed in round cases as seen in the Golden Bridge 43 range which celebrates both watchmaking and architecture, and Golden Bridge 39 in a less imposing version.

The Admiral: An iconic watch with 60 years of success

To each his own Golden Bridge you might say, and the same goes for another Corum collection, the Admiral, which celebrates the legendary sailing race, the Admiral's Cup. Some may think of the nautical flags instead of the usual hour markers, a model released in 1983, more quickly than the original version, a square-cased watch first released in 1960. Likewise, the Admiral watch, worn by sailors all over the world, has survived across the decades as it is continuously reinvented. In 1993, Admiral Tides and its exclusive movement indicate the time and strength of the tides, lunar cycles, the strength of currents and estimated water levels. In 2012, Admiral Legend 46 Minute Repeater Acoustica was the first watch with a musical repeater. The term ""Legend"" refers to the dodecagonal shape of its case. The celebration of maritime watchmaking never stops at Corum, with the Admiral collection available in a wide variety of models and movements (Admiral 38 Automatic, Admiral 45 Chronograph, Admiral 45 Tourbillon...), all of which have in common, in one way or another, the presence of nautical flags. In 2000, Corum adopted a completely different approach, but still remaining extravagant and daring with its Bubble watch, which was truly oversized. With its 44 mm diameter, its extremely curved sapphire crystal and its radical lines, this style of watch yet again stands out from the crowd. The anti-reflective coating on the glass of the models launched in 2016 acts in such a way as to create a magnifying effect. With Bubble, the playful nature of the watch is quickly established and it is a safe to say that it will follow in the footsteps of its predecessors, which remain ""more faithful than ever to the brand's signature collections while enhancing them with a modern and powerful touch marked by innovation and technical progress.
