The Mark XV, an iconic IWC aviator watch

In 1936, the famous IWC manufacture launched its first watch for professional aviators. This pioneering model then took the name Mark and inaugurated a special relationship between the watch company and aviation. At the time, IWC Mark creations had ideal technical characteristics for airplane pilots. Capable of withstanding very high atmospheric pressures, they also had optimal resistance to temperature variations and magnetic fields. The first watch in the collection, the Mark IX, became the archetypal aviator's watch. It features a black dial, luminescent hands and a rotating bezel for ease of use. The model and its successors, including the Mark X, and even more the legendary Mark XI, will be used by professional aviators and the British armed forces. In 1999, IWC created the Mark XV, heir to all the previous models. The model was an immediate success and is now one of the historical references of the Mark collection.

IWC Mark XV collection: a design between past and future

The Mark XV succeeds the Mark XII - IWC did not want to leave XIII and XIV out of superstition, as these numbers are associated with bad luck (13 in the West and 14 in Asia). If its design is in line with its illustrious predecessors, it also brings many innovations. On the side of similarities, the Mark XV watch has kept the sobriety of the dial (in black or white) and the classic shape of the case. The design of the piece is also faithful to the tradition of IWC aviator watches. The finishes, as on previous models, are impeccable and seduce with their timeless classicism. In terms of new features, the model is now offered with a slightly larger case (38 mm diameter instead of 36) and is powered by a new caliber. The brand has indeed abandoned the Jaeger-Lecoultre movements for a caliber 37524 based on a completely reworked ETA movement. Find several models of IWC Mark XV watches on Cresus.
