Oris Big Crown: a legendary aviator watch

In 1938, the Oris manufacture designed a first watch model for airplane pilots. The collection then took the name Big Crown, in reference to the size of the crowns. This new timepiece was a huge success and helped make aviation one of the four main worlds of Oris. The Big Crown of 1938 was distinguished from the start by its very elegant design and innovative functions. Oris introduced the date hand and the pointer date function (the date is indicated by a central hand). This innovative technology would later give rise to a fully-fledged Big Crown Pointer Date family that would succeed the original collection. The size of the Big Crown crown, which allows aviators to wind and adjust the timepiece with their leather gloves, is also a real innovation for the time.
