Tudor: first steps with Rolex

In 1926, Hans Wildorf, founder of Rolex, wanted to position himself in a watch market at a better price, without skimping on the quality and resistance of the watch. Rolex becomes without question the innovative watch brand, constantly in search of performance and saw a huge success with its waterproof, dustproof and shockproof watch with the Oyster. The strategy and positioning of the two brands are well defined and do not clash, and soon Tudor can free itself from the influence of Rolex.

Tudor watches

The first Tudor watches are equipped with a Fleurier movement and then ETA. In 1952, the Tudor Oyster Prince watch made its appearance and accompanied the British scientific expedition to Greenland organized by the Royal Navy. From the 1960s onwards, Tudor turned its attention to professional watches, more in depth, and in particular to diving watches. A Tudor Prince Submariner was produced for the US Navy between 1964 and 1966, followed in the early 1970s by the Marine Nationale model, adopted by the French Navy. The Tudor Prince Submariner and Tudor Prince Day-Date watches were thus presented on the wrists of workers: rescue workers, divers, mining engineers... The union between style and performance will be the common thread of Tudor watches.
