Pi, a unique piece and a Dinh Van signature

Is it a simple disc? No, it is "a disc with perfect proportions, where the balance of shapes gives the piece its beauty." Thus, the House of Dinh Van presents Pi, a collection of pendants and bracelets representing, of course, the Chinese Pi, the flat disc with a hole in the center originally carved from jade stone. The House of Dinh Van, on the other hand, chose gold to represent the Pi in the eponymous collection, and not just any gold since it is 24-carat gold, in other words 99.99% pure gold. This purity gives it its unique bright yellow color. With the Pi necklaces, Dinh Van is taking the world of jewelry in a sort of opposite direction. Indeed, 24-karat gold is rarely used because it is too malleable and presents risks of deformation. But the pendant is hammered by hand so that the metal is skillfully deformed. This is both the charm of Pi, and all the know-how of the House: each piece is handcrafted in Dinh Van's French workshops, and therefore unique. From the cutting of the gold to the sizing and hammering, a Pi pendant has passed through the hands of a jewelry artisan and presents a relief like no other. Associated with a cord or a fine chain, the Pi pendant exists in several diameters: 23 mm, 35 mm, 50 mm and 70 mm. The new price starts at 1450€ for the smallest model.

A true lucky jewel from Chinese culture

Beyond the rarity of using 24-karat gold in jewelry and the uniqueness of each piece, wearing a Pi pendant, or bracelet, is also highly symbolic. For Dinh Van, these creations represent infinity and well-being. Chinese culture celebrates the Pi disc as a perfect circle effectively signifying infinity, but also all the beauty of nature, its harmony, the link between earth and sky. The inner piercing allows the energy to circulate and is therefore intended to promote the entry of new energy. At the foot of the Great Wall, a Pi jewel thus has the reputation of providing security, bringing luck and wealth. So we are talking about an authentic lucky jewel here. Dinh Van presents with Pi a talisman jewel, which has for another particularity to perfectly respect the heritage of the founder of the Parisian House, that of minimalism in jewelry. As Jean Dinh Van knew how to invent it in his time, in the 1960s-1970s, when jewelry still rhymed with flashy ornaments, Pi perpetuates the tradition of the essential form, the square and the round with their play of fullness and emptiness. Jean Dinh Van is the jeweler who knew how to go against the established codes, and bring the precious jewel "down to the street". His intention has always been, on the one hand, to transpose design into his field, and on the other hand, to allow women to wear precious jewelry on a daily basis.
