Seventies: A return to roots for Dinh Van

With the Seventies collection, Dinh Van returns to basics and pays hommage to the 70s, synonymous with daring and freedom. It marks a true return to the House's roots, to the time when jeweller Jean Dinh Van opened his first boutique in Paris and was about to make his mark on the sector with his brand. ""Jewellery making was still very much stuck in the way things had been done in the previous century. We had a vague feeling that women were waiting for us to create more wearable jewellery. And we had to invent it. A mixture of roundness and straight lines, the Seventies jewellery collection perfectly captures the principles of Dinh Van, a pioneer of jewellery minimalism and trily different designs. The collection plays on a range of different everyday objects, so the brand's rings, bracelets, pendants and earrings are inspired by things like the snap ring of a key ring.

Simply shaped pendants, rings and bracelets

It is the circle, or rather circles, that preside over the collection's designs, simple, geographic shapes that hang loosely from the end of their link chain in the case of the pendants. In 18-carat yellow gold or in white gold paved with diamonds (set either tightly together or more loosely), the Seventies pendant is instantly recognisable. There are also models in rose gold and diamonds, as well as in silver. The bracelet cuffs feature the same design, metals and stones, as do the rings, which come in small, medium and large sizes. Note that silver cuff bracelets are available on the second-hand market. Price-wise, a small ring all in white gold is the most affordable; sold new for €1250 whereas the large white gold and diamond model reaches up to €5600.

An iconic, timeless collection

Another piece of jewellery that has become iconic since the collection's launch in 2014 is the Seventies bracelet, which bridges the gap between the bohemian spirit of the 1970s and contemporary elegance. It is now offered by the House of Dinh Van in its white gold and diamond version with a ratchet clasp - which provides extra security - but earlier versions come in other guises, such as a yellow gold bangle. Whether it be pendants, bracelets, rings or even earrings, the strength of the Seventies collection lies in the simplicity and timeless design of its pieces. While maintaining Jean Dinh Van's legacy, with his refined aesthetic and basic shapes found in so many of the signature collections, the Parisian House offers pieces of jewellery that will no doubt be handed down from mother to daughter. Let's not forget that Dinh Van's iconic creations, the link and the handcuffs to name but a few, are already over forty years old and have not aged a bit. The Seventies collection could very well follow in their footsteps.
